Tailorable stimulated Brillouin scattering in nanoscale silicon waveguides
Nanoscale modal confinement is known to radically enhance the effect of intrinsic Kerr and Raman nonlinearities within nanophotonic silicon waveguides. By contrast, stimulated Brillouin-scattering nonlinearities, which involve coherent coupling between guided photon and phonon modes, are stifled in conventional nanophotonics, preventing the realization of a host of Brillouin-based signal-proces...
متن کاملAnalysis of enhanced stimulated Brillouin scattering in silicon slot waveguides.
Stimulated Brillouin scattering has attracted renewed interest with the promise of highly tailorable integration into the silicon photonics platform. However, significant Brillouin amplification in silicon waveguides has yet to be shown. In an effort to engineer a structure with large photon-phonon coupling, we analyzed both forward and backward Brillouin scattering in high-index-contrast silic...

متن کاملStimulated Raman gain scattering in planar dielectric waveguides.
We have measured the vibrational Raman spectrum of a 1.2-microm-thick polystyrene film by using this film as an optical waveguide in a waveguide-stimulated Raman gain experiment. A gain factor of 1.3% was measured for the strong benzene mode at 1002 cm(-1). This value is in reasonable agreement with theoretical predictions.
متن کاملStimulated Raman gain scattering in thin planar dielectric waveguides: erratum.
In our recent Letter 1 a numerical error was introduced in the calculation of the gain G 0. The values of the gain G 0 given in Figs. 2 and 3 should be multiplied by a factor of 5 to yield the correct values. Since this results in a gain that is even larger than that given in the Letter, it by no means alters the discussed ideas and conclusions.
